Planning and Zoning

The Planning/Zoning and Code Enforcement Division is responsible for developing and managing the City’s adopted short-term and long-range growth plans, policies, and ordinances. The division is primarily responsible for implementing the City’s Mission 2030 Long Range Plan through land use and development tools such as Zoning, Watershed Protection, Flood Damage Prevention, and Subdivision and Nuisance Ordinances.

Planning/Zoning and Code Enforcement staff seeks out and administers various grant programs and recommends new development policies to address specific changes impacting Morganton.  The division works with various Boards and Commissions including the Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Community Appearance Advisory Commission, and many other special task forces established by the Morganton City Council.
