Health Insurance

  • The City participates in the NC State Health Plan.  Information regarding the plan is available at https://www.shpnc.org.
    • There are two plan choices:
      • Traditional 70/30 PPO Plan
      • Enhanced 80/20 PPO Plan
    • Employee contributions varying depending on the plan, and the City pays the remainder for regular, full-time employee coverage.
  • Dental Insurance via Guardian Dental.
  • Vision Insurance via EyeMed.

Flex Plan

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to have money deducted from your paycheck before taxes are taken out and this money can be used to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs and dependent care expenses. This means you'll save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money you set aside.  The City offers this benefit to employees and partners with the P&A Group for administration. Life Insurance

Employees are provided with a MedCost term life insurance policy equal to the amount of their annual salary, which is paid for by the City.  Employees may elect to purchase $2,500 coverage on each dependent. Call Kathy Anthony at 828-438-5298 for additional details.  

Supplemental Insurance

The City partners with Municipal Benefits Inc. to allow employees may elect to purchase additional insurance plans and pay premiums through payroll deductions.  Plans include short term disability, long term disability, and whole life policies.  Contact Kathy Anthony at 828-438-5298 for additional details.
