On June 10, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Morganton Department of Public Safety initiated a traffic stop on a Saturn SUV for an unsafe movement violation. The vehicle initially stopped; however, when the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the driver fled the scene.
Officers engaged in a brief vehicle pursuit before the driver, identified as Terrell Lamar Williams, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Williams ran into the Food Lion located on Burkemont Avenue, exited through the rear of the store, and continued into a wooded area. Officers pursued Williams on foot until they lost sight of him.
During the investigation, officers discovered that Williams was wanted in Alabama on an outstanding warrant for First-Degree Robbery. Investigators also determined that Brianna Michelle Kincaid, of 107 Lytle Street, Morganton, had assisted Williams while he was wanted for the robbery offense in Alabama. Kincaid was charged with Felony Aid and Abet and transported to the Burke County Jail.
Additional warrants have been obtained for Williams, including Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Careless and Reckless Driving, and Misdemeanor Child Abuse, related to his actions during the pursuit.
