Fire Destroys Home on Oak St

MORGANTON, NC – On May 8, 2026, at approximately 4 p.m., Public Safety personnel were dispatched to a structure fire reported at 301 Oak St. Upon arrival, initial responding units observed heavy smoke emitting from the home, indicating that the fire was in an advanced stage. A total of four fire engines, staffed by over a dozen firefighters, were deployed to effectively combat the blaze. At the time of the fire, the residence was occupied by several individuals who fortunately managed to escape without any injuries. MDPS personnel remained on the scene until shortly after 7:30 p.m. to ensure the situation was fully controlled. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  The residence was left uninhabitable.  

Agencies assisting at the scene included Burke EMS, the City of Morganton Electric Department, and a Morganton Building Inspector.
