MORGANTON, N.C. — Morganton Department of Public Safety personnel responded to a reported structure fire at Morganton Mobile Home Supply on South Sterling Street shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a structure fully involved with heavy fire conditions extending through the roof. Initial reports indicated that several individuals may have been trapped in a basement apartment. Fire personnel were able to quickly escort the occupants from the building shortly after arriving on scene.
Emergency crews remain on scene at the time of this release conducting overhaul operations. An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin later today.
No injuries or loss of life were reported.
Agencies assisting include the Morganton Department of Public Safety, Triple Community Fire/Rescue, Chesterfield Fire/Rescue, Burke County EMS, Duke Energy and Burke County R.E.A.C.T., which is assisting with traffic control operations.
South Sterling Street/U.S. Highway 18 South remains closed between Believer’s Way and Drexel Road and is expected to remain closed until later this morning. Motorists traveling through the area are advised to use Drexel Road as a detour until fireground operations are complete. Traffic updates will be updated on the Morganton Public Safety Facebook Page.
