This position performs complex technical and administrative work in support of various HR functions with primary responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing comprehensive risk management, safety, and wellness programs for the City of Morganton.

Key responsibilities include:
• Administering the City’s property, auto, general liability, and Workers’ Compensation insurance programs
• Investigating and managing claims and implementing corrective safety measures
• Coordinating safety inspections, OSHA compliance, and employee training
• Planning and evaluating employee wellness initiatives and safety programs
• Developing educational materials and organizing safety and wellness events
• Managing the City’s random drug and alcohol testing program
• Collaborating with Human Resources team members on various HR initiatives and special projects beyond core risk management duties

Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of risk management practices, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety and wellness principles. The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who is flexible and willing to assist the Human Resources Department and the City in a wide variety of capacities.

Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. However, an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and progressively responsible administrative experience will be considered.
Experience with risk management practices, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety and wellness principles is strongly preferred. A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.

Salary Range: $57,617 – $86,425
