The City is looking for a detailed-oriented, accurate, and reliable individual to join the fast-paced meter reading department. Position reads electric and water meters on assigned schedule and routes using hand-held electronic devices. Position involves combination of walking and driving small trucks and is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards of bothersome animals and all kinds of weather. Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely and to walk several miles a day to cover an assigned route. Must be able to deal courteously and effectively with the public and to work independently within a routine schedule. Applicant must possess a valid NC Driver’s license and have a high school diploma and some experience in working with data and figures. Starting Salary is $ 33,687 ($16.20 per hour) and is eligible for a 5% increase at the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period. Open until filled.
