The City of Morganton is seeking an outgoing, team-oriented, organized individual to help keep Morganton beautiful!
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Receives complaints from the public and provides information regarding enforcement of ordinances.
- Works with the public and property owners on coming into compliance in a timely manner.
- Conducts field inspections to investigate violations and citizen complaints regarding potential violations of city codes and ordinances including nuisance, property maintenance, and zoning.
- Documents and maintains records of complaints, investigations, and actions taken.
- Assesses Zoning Applications and issues permits for minor developments, such as single-family dwellings and accessory structures.
- Assesses Sign Applications and issues permits.
- Answers questions and provides clear and courteous advice to citizens, contractors, and other service professionals, as well as other City departments, on matters related to zoning codes and ordinances.
- Ability to become thoroughly knowledgeable of technical ordinances, codes and regulations pertaining to nuisances, and zoning.
This position requires tact in dealing with the public, strong attention to detail and documentation, and proper adherence to procedure. Desired qualifications include: Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture or related field or equivalent; one to four years of experience in code enforcement, planning, or a related field. Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License and a good driving record is required. The successful candidate will possess NC Zoning Official Certification or have the ability to attain the certification within two years.
