Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) serves as an advisory board to the Morganton City Council. The commission works closely with city staff to make recommendations to the City Council regarding land use issues.

Meetings

The P&Z Commission generally meets at 5:15 pm on the second Thursday of the month in the City Council Chambers of City Hall when the Commission has business to address. The Commission does not meet if the Commission does not have any items or applications to review. Meetings are open to the public and televised live on Ch. 2 on CoMPAS Cable TV.

The meetings are also posted on the City's YouTube Channel.

Members

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of 11 members, nine of whom are appointed by the City Council. The remaining two members are appointed by the Burke County Board of Commissioners. Members serve three-year terms.

**Special Announcement**

The Morganton Planning & Zoning Commissions monthly meeting scheduled for Thursday March14, 2024 at 5:15 pm has been canceled.  Minutes from the February 8, 2024 meeting will be added to the next Planning and Zoning agenda.  Our next commission meeting is planned for Thursday April 11, 2024 in the City Hall Council Chambers at 5:15pm located at 305 East Union Street Suite A100.

 

On Wednesday April 10, 2024 Kimley Horn and staff will have an Imagine 2040 Community Workshop. The community workshop will begin at 5:30 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers.  I know that everyone is eager to see the progress that has been made on our comp plan as we near the completion.
