The Citizen Police Academy is a community-oriented program that offers participants the chance to learn more about how the City of Morganton Department of Public Safety operates. The goal of the Academy is to open lines of communication between the residents and the Public Safety Department so that participants are better-informed about what the police profession entails.
We believe that the participants that graduate from our Citizen Police Academy will have a greater insight as to the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a law enforcement officer and firefighter. Graduates will also have an increased understanding of the difficulties facing today’s law enforcement officer and firefighter. In addition, graduates will learn how our agency has managed both operations since 1976.

Who can Attend?
Anyone who is at least 18 years of age, and has an interest in law enforcement and fire fighting. City residents have first preference.
If you are interested in participating in the academy, please complete and return an application by the deadline for the next session. Completed applications can be emailed, mailed, or dropped off at Public Safety headquarters in the lobby, or returned by mail.
