RESOLUTION HONORING SYBIL S. BURNETTE
WHEREAS, Sybil S. Burnette was employed by the City of Morganton as Secretary I in the Electric Department on May 12, 1998; reclassified as Secretary II in the Electric Department on July 1, 2000; reclassified as Administrative Specialist on July 1, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Sybil S. Burnette has faithfully served the City of Morganton in the Electric Department, and has given of her time and efforts for the benefit of the citizens of Morganton for twenty years, eight months; and
WHEREAS, Sybil S. Burnette retired from the City of Morganton as Administrative Specialist of the Electric Department on April 1, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Morganton City Council wishes to officially recognize the contributions of Sybil S. Burnette and express their appreciation for a job well done.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Morganton that the Mayor presents this Resolution to Sybil S. Burnette.

WHEREAS, the Chesterfield Ruritan Club was chartered on April 10, 1958 with 23 original members of which only one charter member is still living; and
WHEREAS, the Chesterfield Ruritan Club assists the elderly and needy in the community with food, clothing, hospital bills and other basic needs, sponsor local school athletic programs, sponsor and provide space for scout troops, award college scholarships to local students, donate the clubhouse for school and community activities, promote and volunteer at the annual Burke County Fair, partner with schools on fundraising projects, provide a free senior citizens supper, hold a free annual health fair at clubhouse, volunteer with the local Habitat for Humanity and other non-profit organizations, complete community roadside clean-up and provide members with timely and pertinent information through guest presentations at monthly meetings; and
WHEREAS, the Chesterfield Ruritan Club will turn 60 years old on April 10, 2018 and will be celebrating with an Anniversary Dinner to be held on Saturday, April 7 at 5:00 p.m.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of Morganton encourages all citizens to give full regard to the past and continuing service of the Chesterfield Ruritan Club.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Morganton congratulates the Chesterfield Ruritan Club on its 60th Anniversary and extends best wishes as its members continue to contribute to the betterment of this community.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Allow the Main Street Program to apply for grant funds from the NC Arts Councils SmART Initiative Program; and to endorse the application because it is understood the arts is an economic driver that Morganton should be seizing.
