The Morganton Parks and Recreation Department provides plots of land for residents to grow vegetables. Plots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The garden is located in Catawba Meadows Park and is open during growing season.
Gardeners must pay a $30.00 fee to use each plot. The fee covers some operations costs including water, straw, equipment, etc. Plots may be shared, which can be very helpful, because gardening is a lot of work including soil preparation, planting, sowing, tilling, weeding and harvesting. Only 2 plots per house hold.
Applications should be mailed to:
City of Morganton Parks & Recreation Dept.
Mailing Address: P.O. Box 3448
Make checks payable to: City of Morganton
Plot rental dates: March 1, 2020 through November 30, 2020.
Gardeners must provide their own fertilizer plants, seeds, and pesticides. The City plows and tills the garden every year and provides the following for gardeners:
- hoes, rakes, shovels, pitchforks, hoses
- a small tiller, a large tiller, weed eater, lawn mower, and the gas and oil for the equipment
- straw for mulching
