Recent heavy rains caused a sewer spill in the City of Morganton Thursday.
The spill started Thursday, November 12, at 7:30 a.m. at a sewer junction box on Vinearden Road near the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The overflow stopped at 1:30 p.m. the same day. Approximately 180,000 gallons spilled into Hunting Creek.
The overflow was mostly rainwater that infiltrated into the sewer system during the storms.
