Recent rainfall in the area caused a sewer spill in the City of Morganton Wednesday morning.
The spill began Wednesday, Nov. 6, at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the Coal Chute outfall line into Hunting Creek, and stopped by 2:30 p.m. An estimated 13,200 gallons spilled into Hunting Creek.
The overflow was mostly rainwater that infiltrated the sewer system during recent storms. No adverse impacts from the spill are expected. Residents do not need to boil their drinking water.
