Art in the Hall has a new show on display. Come join us at Morganton City Hall now through September to view the etchings and artistic creations of Matthew Strawn.
Matthew Strawn is a local artist from Granite Falls, who has created art for more than 30 years. He attended the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, from 1978 to 1981 after being encouraged to explore his artistic talents by his high school art teachers. Strawn and late artist Gail Moore worked together to establish the Foothills Visual Arts Guild in Lenoir in 1991, which had a gallery space at the Lenoir Mall for more than 20 years.
Strawn works primarily in printmaking, specializing in etching. He creates woodcut prints and paints with watercolors. His subject matter is local scenery, architecture, landscapes and portraits. Strawn is inspired by the natural world and architecture he observes, and enjoys creating artwork of abandoned industrial buildings in an effort to document them for future generations.
Matt will be at Morganton City Hall during the Third Thursday Art Crawl on Sept. 20, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, to discuss his artistic process and creations.
