The City of Morganton Parks and Recreation Department has selected the group that will build the City’s new skate park – Pillar/Artisan – and the builders want more input from skaters and the public.
The Pillar/Artisan concept was the most popular when presented during a public meeting held in December.
The next Skate Park Public Meeting will be at 6:00 pm, Thursday, April 20 at the Mountain View Recreation Center. Parks and Recreation Director Rob Winkler said anyone interested in the new park should attend and provide input.
“This will be an introductory meeting with the public and Pillar/Artisan,” Winkler said. “The group will use the initial conceptual design and expand with public input. Input from citizens will be critical.”
After the design phase, Pillar/Artisan will have to create construction drawings, complete the site preparation, and then build the park.
“We are shooting for mid-August completion depending on weather and scheduling, which should be answered after the April 20 meeting,” Winkler said.
The skate park will be located on the lower baseball field behind the Collett Street Recreation Center.
In December, the public viewed design proposals from several companies and gave input on their favorite. The Pillar/Artisan design was the most popular concept presented during the meeting.
