On May 18th at approximately 6:12PM, Morganton Public Safety was dispatched to a possible structure Fire at 211 Summit St. First arriving units advised there was smoke showing from a single story residence confirming there was a working fire. Upon arrival of Morganton Engine 3, two hand lines were deployed to begin suppression operations. The second due truck was ordered to establish the water supply. Upon crews entering the residence they found fire in the kitchen. The fire was quickly knocked down reducing extension into other parts of the structure. Fire Fighters quickly sweep the house searching for any victims possibly remaining in the residence.


City of Morganton Electric Department personnel were contacted to respond to turn-off the power to the residence. Fire Personnel remained on the scene for approximately 1hour and 15 minutes. No injuries to victims or Fire personnel was found or reported. The fire is still under investigation by Morganton Public Safety fire investigators. It appears the fire is accidental at this time, possibly starting in the kitchen on a cooking stove. Damages are estimated around 13,000 dollars.


Morganton Public Safety Fire Division wants to remind everyone to maintain proper clearances around all cooking appliances and never leave a stove unattended while cooking.
