On Sunday January 13th at approximately 0900 Morganton Public Safety received a call of a possible structure fire at 304 Roper St. First arriving units reported heavy fire and smoke showing from the residence. Firefighters performed interior fire suppression tactics and extinguished the fire. All occupants and family dog were out of the structure upon arrival by fire personnel. No injuries to occupants or firefighters were reported.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes, but remained on the scene for around 2 hours. Morganton Public Safety responded with 16 personnel and 4 apparatus. American Red Cross responded to assist the occupants of the home with clothing and lodging. Morganton was also assisted by the city building inspector and city electric. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is presumed to be unintentional at this time.
