On December 15, 2017 at 2:13 am, Morganton Officers responded to Carswell’s Landscaping located at 563 Hopewell Road for a breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter around the area and with the assistance of owner’s surveillance system, identified the last location of the suspect. Officers were able to locate the suspect in a creek bed in the wooded near the business.
The suspect was identified as Eric Thomas Riddle, 32 years of age.
Riddle had taken several items from the business property and stacked them together for removal. Investigators were called to the scene for further investigation.
Public Safety Investigators had been in the process of investigating a previous breaking and entering of Carswell’s Landscaping in November 2017. After speaking with Riddle, Investigators were able to identify Riddle as the offender in the November 2017 investigation and a prior investigation in February 2015.
Morganton Public Safety was able to recover some property belonging to Carswell and is continuing the investigation.
Eric Thomas Riddle, DOB: 3/21/85, was arrested and charged with three counts of felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny, first degree trespassing, and damage to property. He is currently in the Burke Catawba Detention Facility under $26,000 secured bond.
