Morganton Public Safety and rescue crews responded to a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection of Collette Street and College Street.  Officers arrived to discover a "crossover" suv had flipped over, resting on its’ side, and a passenger sedan with extensive, front end damage.  Injured occupants in the suv had initially been trapped inside but were able to escape with the help of other motorist whom had stopped at the crash to render aid.  

Two adults and four children occupied the suv.  A 4-year old male child in the suv was pronounced dead at the scene.  The others were transported to CHS Morganton with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the sedan was transported to CHS Morganton with non-life threatening injures as well.

Morganton Public Safety Traffic Reconstruction team members were called to the crash scene.  The roadway remained closed for several hours as team members worked to determine contributing circumstances for the crash.  

The child's name and other occupants names are being withheld pending notification of family members.  


No charges have been filed at this time, pending completion of the crash investigation and consultation with The District Attorneys Office.
