The Public Safety Department requires permits for block parties, open burning, parades, and other special events. The purpose of the application process is to provide information about your event or activity to the City of Morganton in order to make determinations regarding public safety and to determine the involvement of various departments and agencies.The applicant is responsible for providing complete and accurate information on the application, including an attached detailed site plan. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. A pre-planning meeting may be required.
Applications and events are prioritized on a first come-first served basis and the City may approve or disapprove an event's requested date based on availability of resources. Events that occur on an annual basis will receive priority the following year.

Events that use any portion of the North Carolina highway system require approval from the NC Department of Transportation. This is not required for the preapproved Walk/Run Routes.
The ABC Permit Division reviews and processes all permit applications for retail activity as well applications for Special One Time permits and Limited Special Occasion permits for individuals or groups hosting functions such as wedding receptions, company parties, etc.
