City of Morganton Public Safety Officer Joey Belanger was named Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer by the Greater Hickory Jaycees during the group’s 2017 Distinguished Service Award Ceremony held Thursday May 11, 2017, at Catawba Country Club.
The Jaycees recognize individuals who have gone the extra mile in service to their community. The event opened with comments from Jaycees President Colleen Anderson and Catawba County Board of Commissioners Chairman Randy Isenhower, followed by the awards presentations.
The award was a big surprise for Belanger.
“While I may be recognized individually tonight, the fact that I wear this uniform signifies my efforts are just part of a greater team of people who truly care about their community,” Belanger said.
Belanger also praised his wife Kristin saying, “It’s not often I get to share times like this,” and credited her for supporting him, along with his family and department.
Belanger has served with the City of Morganton Public Safety Department for 16 years. He currently works Special Assignment and organizes the department’s DARE Program.
In addition to law enforcement, Belanger works as a DJ with The Big Dawg 92.1 and is often out and about in Morganton and Burke County promoting local events and causes. Belanger also serves on the boards of The Historic Burke Foundation and The Outreach Center.
