The Public Information Office is responsible for sharing information about city government and services with local citizens and the public in general. The Public Information Officer uses a variety of methods to spread the word about the City events, programs, and services including news releases, the city newsletter, utility bills, social media sites, and the city website. The goal of the Public Information Office is to promote city services and events, release government news and information to the public, and answer questions about local government in Morganton.

Budget Basics Fiscal Year 2015-2016 provides a quick sketch of the City of Morganton’s $72.9 Million budget for the fiscal year 2015-2016. Budget Basics provides a summary of city revenues and expenditures for the General Fund, Electric Fund, Water Fund, Wastewater Fund, and CoMPAS CATV Fund. The goal of Budget Basics is to inform city taxpayers about where the city gets its revenue and how that money is spent.

First published in 1993, "Local Government in North Carolina" answers those questions for a general audience. Widely used in civic education courses, the book describes how North Carolina cities, towns, and counties are organized and what they do. The book encourages playing an active role in one's own community and becoming personally engaged in maintaining an effective government.

Morganton Matters is a newsletter published every two months and mailed to all Morganton residents who receive a City utility bill. The city mails about 12,500 utility bills a month. The newsletter provides a great opportunity to communicate directly with residents and let our citizens know what's happening in their community. If you didn't receive the latest newsletter, you can download the latest edition below or pick up a copy at City Hall.
