The City of Morganton is divided into four voting districts. Any registered voter who lives in the City can run for Mayor when the Mayor's seat is up for election. To seek election to represent Council District 1, 2, 3 or 4, a candidate must reside within the district. The Mayor and Council seats are elected "at large" meaning that all voters in the City cast ballots for the Mayor's seat and each District Seat up for election.
