Agencies to host emergency services training

Morganton Public Safety

The City of Morganton Department of Public Safety, in partnership with Case Farms Morganton Division and Burke County Emergency Management, will host a large scale emergency services training exercise on May 2, 2024.

The exercise will be held on the property of Case Farms at 121 Rand Street in Morganton as well as at Western Piedmont Community College Emergency Services Training Center at 150 Coal Chute Rd, Morganton. Roadways between the areas of West Fleming Dr. and Burkemont Ave. will be affected and traffic congestion will possibly be heavy. Please use caution around the West Fleming Dr., Coal Chute, and Rand Street intersections as emergency service apparatus will be entering and exiting roadways in those areas.

Residents should be prepared to see emergency responders including local and state resources throughout the area on that day. Local authorities are asking for all citizens to use caution as they are driving, biking or walking through the area.

Fire Division Chief Israel Gibson said, “This exercise is designed to test first-responders emergency response capabilities to a hazardous material Incident. The interoperability of logistics, communications, operations, and command and control protocols between local and state agencies will be exercised.”
